Here is a good friend (and customer!) of ours.  This gentleman has a classic approach to dressing.  The jacket is a wonderful grey textured wool, grey serves as a great base for a host of colors. Here he pairs it with a green shepard check wool tie from us, adding a dash of color and more texture to the grey base. When shopping for boldly patterned ties, make sure the colors are muted. A large patterned tie in loud colors is too much.  The shirt is all about the collar. Our preference is not for such wide spread collars but here, it works because it is a very muted pattern. Also, do not fall into the trap of making a huge windsor tie knots when you wear a cutaway collar like this, leave that to the NFL sportcasters. The outfit works because the shirt pattern is very muted, the tie is patterned but in muted colors and the jacket’s interest is in the texture, not the pattern.  Change the shirt pattern to a louder one, change the colors of the tie or add a bold pattern to the jacket and this would not look anywhere near as nice.
